    Bleeding modern Shimano disc brakes

I just went through the faff of upgrading one of my road bikes to hydro Shimano discs. It is indeed a faff the first time. I took my levers into my local shop to acquire all new hoses etc etc. I got given the wrong bleed pot, my levers share the screw size with MTB's, definitely not something...

What do you think of Shimano ditching rim brakes in 105 and higher?

Careful. Have you not heard of N+1. There's a bikeshop owner here too. You do have a point though, I should try & remember that one next time I'm trawling for parts. On the other hand, if you can't splash a few grand on a new bike when you are in your forties, when can you?

What do you think of Shimano ditching rim brakes in 105 and higher?

Thanks. Yeah the launching of said new groupos seemed to sensationalise the lack of mechanical shifting & rim brakes. As you say, ClickBait. Thanks for the info.

What do you think of Shimano ditching rim brakes in 105 and higher?

So what is the shifter option to use with say Ultegra or Dura Ace 12sp Rim Brake options?

    XTR M952 chainring rot

Maybe it's not played well with a particular lube of some sort. Like a chemical reaction has taken place.

brake pads v brake arm hitting tyre?

It sounds like a combination of too wide a tyre, too narrow brake bosses on the frame & the brakes themselves. Best scenario I can think of is a narrower tyre or fit some brakes such as Shimano LX V-brakes with the parallelogram linkage, the arms sit much wider apart, outboard of the linkage.

    3.6kg bike!

My road bike is at about 7kg. I find that on the verge of being rather skittish & lively on some fast descents. This must be something else when at 40mph ish. I'd love to try it on a few local climbs though.

Mercian cycles call it a day .

That's a shame. I got into cycling at a young age, going with the family on rides with our local cycling club. I always remember the guy that had a really nice looking Mercian. That's what they meant to me.

Is this a 90's Orange Prestige?

An Orange guru should be along to help with the numbers.

1990 Raleigh Dyna Tech Cronos Titanium (56)

This is a great read. I admire the determination that people have with these builds. My hat is well & truly off.

Is this a 90's Orange Prestige?

I don't think it is aluminium, I merely jest at how it looks to my eyes, on my screen. I am pretty sure it is a Prestige the more I look at the pics. I'd say it's a 93/4 like my own. Does this frame have any frame numbers stamped into it? That would confirm if it is or isn't an Orange product.

Loving the little tweaks. Great bike.

Is this a 90's Orange Prestige?

Cable routing doesn't look right to me. The welds around the headtube look like alu in the photos (to my eyes) The more I look the more it does look like a 93 era Orange. My Prestige has no rack/mudguard braze ons, but my Clockwork did have. Is the headtube 1"?

For Sale Thorn Brevet Special. Light Touring Bike (Lee Cooper frame) 50 cm - £195.

If it were a 560, I would. I was actually searching for one of these the other week (on a whim). The later sloping tt/ahead style frames don't appeal to me.

For Sale Thorn Brevet Special. Light Touring Bike (Lee Cooper frame) 50 cm - £195.

I used to build & sell these when I worked at Thorn cycles. Really great & well thought out frames, this was the special edition colorway, the std was a dull Metallic Green. Well priced I must add. GLWS

It's not an Oakley or an Orange. I saw the Summit sticker & thought Raleigh despite not having the signature Raleigh seatstay cappings. Good call.
