Hello. To complement the Next Machine that I've built a few years ago, I've scored this very early The Machine complete with XT headset and BB. Given the early year of manufacturing, I think it's appropriate to dress it with more XT parts, I do have XT thumbshifters plus front and rear mechs...

I have a single Lh bar-end Record lever, friction and with the black rubber cap. NOS.

You could try and replace that part only, but there will be wear also in the tooth that engages the ratchet-ring (you call it "cable spool"), and this is pinned in the shifter body and not exactly replaceable. It is easy to spot by making a close-up picture: that tooth has to be nicely "pointy"...

I have a Cinelli The Next Machine that has a lug where the elevated chainstays go in the seat-tube. Does that count? :mrgreen:

Re: It's not fitting well: see the gap you have between the hub body and the freehub, the rubber seal is exposed too. If you build the wheel with the hub like that, it's likely to be over its former 130mm OLD width, which means the wheel ends up with a massive difference in spoke tension...
