Oh yes. There are some updates.
The paint had to be done twice, since the first try was so far off, I couldn’t accept it.
The second try is still not matching my expectations, but I guess I have to live with it.
Here are some photos of the result.
Still haven’t found the time to build it...
Well, I am not an expert. As far as I understood it is one ground layer, multiple layers of the yellow, fluo color, black crackle paint and finally clear coat.
So am I. The crackle effect happens if two colors have a different chemical structure. The layer on top is added while the lower layer still is wet. The top layer dries faster and brakes. Just like mud crackling when a puddle dries out.
Can‘t wait to pick it up, Andreas.

The fork for the Grove X is in the paint booth at the moment. So that bike will be assembled soon.
Here is a sample. And it will glow, like the frame does.
I also prefer amber wall tyres. There is only rare cases where it adds too much color to a bike. In case of the Grove it just felt wrong. I will post new photos soon here.
Totally agree on that. In the beginning of collecting vintage MTBs I always tried to get Cook Bros, Paul and other CNC stuff. I kept that stuff for over a decade and recently sold all of it, since I never put it on my bikes.
The X will also get a complete XT spec.
I just saw, that I didn’t finish this build thread. So I will just post some photos of the HC here and keep you updated regarding the X.
Different to what Is shown in the contest, the HC now has Tioga Psycho Blackwalls which somehow supports the hard core aesthetic of the bike. I also put bar...
Thank you for your votes and @raidan73 for still organising this fantastic contest after all these years.
If I remember correctly my first attendance was back in 2010 with my grey Lobster. All in all the Grove now is my sixth entry and I am really happy you liked the bike and made it my second...
1991 Grove Innovations Hard Core
I tend to like weird bikes and what Bill Grove created in the 80s and 90s can be called weird.
Hard Cores in smaller sizes have the top tube only connected to the huge ovalized down tube due to the hight of the bottom braket. It should prevent pain in the lower...
