Reynolds 'R' decal - Plain Jane blades?

This is intriguing. The Reynolds catalogue page attached shows this particular fork decal with the 731os frame set. However, the part number, EB708, is also used in 708 and 653, albeit with a decal to show this. Looking through the 1991 catalogue the exact same fork blades are used in 531...

Reynolds 'R' decal - Plain Jane blades?

Interesting. Various sites have details of decals, including Reynolds themselves, Lloyds, etc. Very similar to 653 and 708 fork decals, but they have the numerals on them. This is identical to my 731os forks decal and this was provided by Reynolds about 3 years ago for a renovation at Bob...

Mystery Frame , Sunday night school homework time

Ok, glad that's sorted. I posted a thread the other year with what may well have been the same frame, https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/peugeot-708.378076/ . Finding the new-fangled site harder to navigate (don't seem to be able to preview before posting) but, if this works, should show...

Mystery Frame , Sunday night school homework time

One or two puzzling bits but think I now understand. Am certain it's Peugeot as well. Here's a photo of some forks off a 1992 708 - the 'G' is identical. Didn't recognise the cut-outs in the lugs but when I looked at an old frame exactly the same. To confirm whether 708, simply look down the...

Raleigh Royal 708 - seat post size?

Raleigh Royal 708 - seat post size?

Re: Seat post sizes not necessarily straightforward. I have two 708 frames, one will just about take a 27.0 but has had a hard life so may not be what it was originally. My other 708 was built by Peugeot’s Prestige workshop, an unridden team bike, and is a very smooth fitting 27.2. Reynolds...

Bob Jackson to close after all

Re: Well, this is a turn-up for the books! :xmas-big-grin: I took my Bob Jackson in for a repair the other week, panicked at the thought that unless I acted fast I wouldn’t get the frame repaired by the original builders. At the time Donald couldn’t promise to re-paint in the time left but...

    Ottadini Reynolds 531

Re: Here's the 531 Pro page from the 1985 Reynolds' catalogue: The seat post is supposed to be 27.2 if it's imperial tubing (28.6 external dimension) or 26.6 if metric. My 2 531 Pro bikes are both metric and they both take 26.4 seat posts. Good luck

Bob Jackson - plea for photos showing colours

Re: Not the colours you're interested in, grey and white with red lug-lining, but BJ all the same (an excellent job the other year, this will show you more if you're really interested viewtopic.php?f=23&t=375875 )

Dutch classic youngtimer built from scrap ...

Re: This is a fantastic build. https://www.gazellechampionmondial.nl/brochures.html takes you to Gazelle brochures. If you scroll towards the bottom of the page it takes you to the pricelists - here you will find frame geometry. Good luck.

    Old Peugeot advice

Re: Don't know exact model or date but about 1989 / 90 based on the decals. Look at https://bikeboompeugeot.com/index.html to see range of catalogues for these years and with lots of details about what they were built with. Peugeot broadly made same bikes for different countries but some...

    Reynolds frame weight confusion

Re: Here’s Reynolds cycle tubing from their 1985 catalogue. 531 Pro has superceded 531 SL. This scan for 531 Pro sets out typical built frame and forks, ie including bottom bracket shell, all lugs, dropouts, etc. Helpfully suggests an average weight for these frame components on top of the...

    Reynolds 653

Re: I have a couple of 753 frames and a 653 and they weigh the same (the 653 is actually between the two 753s). I’ve heard many of the stories about 653 but I’m happy riding it. Indeed, collecting old steel bikes may not be understood by everyone but is probably cheaper than therapy over the...

    Thorn Audax Mk1 refurb

Re: Always been intrigued by this frame with it’s mix of different tubes – will watch this build with interest. To try and clarify things about 653 here's some info and a scan from what I believe is the 1988 Reynolds’ catalogue, although may be from the following year: ‘1987 Another first for...
