    Today's Ride

Did my 40km loop for the first time in two weeks, with a nasty dose of sinusitis in between which was a big disincentive to exercise. Lovely sunny day but with that cold underlying breeze making the weather feel colder than it looks. And two weeks off seem to have set back the old fitness a...

    Today's Ride

Well you may laugh, but there's a grain of truth to this -- my younger stepson recently announced he was going for his motorbike licence and I was immediately worried for him. That's because my two best mates and I all had bikes in our 20s and did some really stupid things on them (mainly to do...

    Soma groove

And although it seemed impossibly rare in a tiny Australian country town, there's a doppelganger here . . .

    Soma groove

Nice bike! I like my Groove very much. Bought the frame used on spec and built unlike my Konas to be tough rather than light. Fox fork, XT / Ditch Witch wheels, Race Face cranks, XT 10x derailleur / cassette, Avid BB7s (soon to be upgraded), Thomson stem & seatpost, Flite saddle.

    Today's Ride

Sadly my obsession with cycling automatically discounts it as a possible hobby or pursuit for my stepsons. Whenever I try to convince them to go riding with me, they get this furtive look that says 'uncool', 'old-guy stuff', and yes, 'embarrassing'. I'd feel bad about it but then in my...

Confusing myself: 10mm rear QR axle converter?

Thanks! In 30 years' messing about with bikes, I never knew this. And could have just measured one of my bikes' dropouts.

    That's a nice build -- how's it ride?

Confusing myself: 10mm rear QR axle converter?

I've rather rashly ordered a 26" Mavic Crossride rear wheel which has a 10 x 135mm rear hub. Online research, including of Mavic's own tech specs, is confusing as to what kind of adaptor (if any?) is needed to use this on an MTB which takes a 9mm QR skewer. Surely you'd need to lose 1mm from the...

Imlach's Sweaty Hippie Funk Collection, adventure bikes, rusty rats, cruisers and other alt bastardisations of bicyclery

Here's a local chap who builds his own choppers according to his own designs -- does all the welding (including all those decorative touches) and brings his creations into town every Saturday.
