That all sounds sage advice. To be honest, it’s a garage queen now as I retired the poor thing years ago. It definitely earned it. Bought it new in ‘91 and raced / commuted on it for a good 15 years. It’ll probably get the heat and pickle fork treatment next time anyway. So thanks for the tip. 🔥🥒🍴

If you have any cranky old Manitou Mk1 forks that are cosmetically ok but not really not fit to ride on, I’m interested. I have one pair already and need a matching set for a pair of lamps. If they’re 1 1/8” steerer, that would be a bonus as it will save on resisting the top fixing gubbins...

Didn’t know that doohickey existed. Any time you find yourself using a mallet on a bike, you know something’s gone a bit wonky, but this seems quite elegant.
