Members we haven’t seen for a while

People come and go on forums. A couple of other places I lurk in have threads running where you can check in on folks who have seemingly dropped off the radar. This is one of the only forums I use where I don’t actually know anyone in real life. But, like many of you, I’ve been around the forum...

Heads up: Moulton Standard at Lyne Lane tip, Surrey

Heads up for anyone near the Lyne Lane tip in Surrey. There’s a rough-looking Moulton Standard at the back of the bike pile. Looks complete and these aren’t exactly cheap if you want one. Terrible photos attached if you’re interested. I can’t collect it or hold onto it for anyone unfortunately.

Late 40s / Early 50s René Herse tip find

On Saturday I popped to the tip to shift some junk. I spotted a pile of old bikes and the one on the top looked interesting. Very rusty but had an old-type derailleur and lots of alloy parts. It looked mostly complete. They don't normally let you take anything but I always ask anyway and, to my...

Controversial: show us your cargo bikes

Hey, got a cargo bike? Let's see it! Started mine in 2019 according to my thread on another forum. I'd been thinking about a cargo bike for some time, to do local chores and for a bit of family fun in the summer. I'd lined up a couple of basic steel mountain bikes which I was going to convert...

    GT Edge Aero 1998-2000-ish?

I think this just about scrapes into this section. I've had it for a few years but never posted about it because it's a bit too new for the rest of the forum. I only got the bare frame and married it up with an early TCR fork. Initially I ran it with risers and 10-speed SRAM X7, which is...

    Pics of your current fleet

Prompted by Peachy, what about a quick thread with some pics of your current fleet? Just dump some stuff off your phone, pics don't have to be worthy of a Readers Rides thread. In fact, this whole thread is a lazy way of me not updating any of my old threads or starting new ones. So what are you...

Now sorted: SRAM X0 9-speed right hand shifter for spares

Bit of a long shot. Looking for a dead, right-hand, SRAM X0 9-speed shifter for spares. These are the pretty ones with the carbon shell. Mine is missing the spring shown below, which is the only bit I need. What are the chances anyone has one? Update: sorted thanks to ishaw

    Indexing with a Huret Jubilee

Is any kind of indexing basically out of the question with a drillium Huret Jubilee rear derailleur? I think I've ascertained that the cable pull is different to Shimano and Campag - much smaller - but I can't find out by how much. Does anyone know any dodges like using a 7-, 8-, 9- or 10-speed...

Shimano DX brake set - now sorted

I'm looking for a set of Shimano DX brakes - the classic red ones. Just missed a nice set on eBay and all the others are a bit overpriced for their condition! Need the whole lot: levers and calipers/vees whatever they're called. Good useable condition preferable but don't have to be perfect :)...

    Rude lunchtime Rudy Project

I bought the frame a while back off ishaw from this forum. Thought I'd start a thread running over here for this bike since I've got one over on LFGSS. Apart from a SS clunker I built to do the Isle of Wight challenge, this is my first mountain bike - so it's been a bit of a learning curve what...

Looking for 9 speed wheels, rim brake, dark colour.

Might as well ask here, it says at the top; so I'm asking here! I'm after some 9 speed wheels for rim brake with Shimano/SRAM splines. Looking for something anodised in gun metal, ideally, or black. I guess mid/late 90s or later. I've got a cassette already. Can pick up if it's near...

Older 5/16" axle hub thread question

Struggling to find the answer to this. I'm missing the front nuts on one of my hubs. It's an older 5/16" axle - but what is this thread? Is it BSF, BSW (Whitworth) or UNF? I don't think it's UNF because none of the UNC or UNF ones in my box will thread on.

Can anyone ID these bars? W or M logo in a wreath.

I was wondering if anyone recognised the make or model of these drop bars. The logo is either a W or M inside a wreath, depending whether you look at it from front or back, on the top of both sides of the bars. The bars are bare alloy, not anodised, 25.4mm centre, 40cm wide and have quite a lot...

What size tubulars were used in the 30s 40s and 50s?

Might be one for the older Retrobikers, this one. I'm struggling to find any reliable information on this subject. I'm guessing that tubulars weren't 18mm or 19mm back then, and that these came later once rims became very narrow. In the 30s the roads wouldn't have been good enough to use tyres...

Vitus 979 commuter and TT project (WIP)

This is the replacement for the Bob Jackson that I broke a tube on a while back. That bike did all my geared bike duties from commuting and weekend rides to time trials. I'm intending this one to do exactly the same so the brief for the frame was the same too: lightweight and compact. The idea...
