    Re: I'm with rogerzilla on this. The old Raleigh headset cups are incredibly hard wearing, they'll run for another 40 years no problem. I'd personally just reuse them with good quality grease and fresh balls. Paint came up well!

    Claud Butler Sierra 531 rust bike

    Sorry, missed this question. It was taken back to bare steel, polished up to 800 grit wet & dry paper then given a forced patina (my own blend of chemicals) followed by a lacquer of choice. Nearly 2 full years on and it's still completely stable and (additional) rust free.

    Not at all. I rode it without a brake for maybe 6 months but decided it wasn't worth the hassle, hence the added brake. Serial # is 062595.
