An acquaintence has the bike and needs a BB assy. He says it is a JIS taper spindle. Does anyone know if they used JIS tapered spindles or if that is most likely a replacement that someone put in not realizing (or caring) about the difference between JIS and ISO taper length? Thank you!

It is a left hand thread tool. I have seen a couple aftermarket versions, but as you are learning they are not easy to find, and usually run (at least Camp ones) much higher in price than they should be. I think the last Camp one I saw was about $100 which is more than the crankset cost me.

That lug pattern was being used by them in the very late 50s and very early 60s; not sure when it was first used or when it stopped being used. Very odd pump pegs indeed; they should help make it more easy to identify. Head badge should be 50s (early/mid?) to possibly early 60s (or later?).
