Pooly Alan

Old School Grand Master
Around 1990 (ish) I purchased a second hand Alan road bike. It had a lugged bonded frame and a mixture of bits. Campag 12 speed Record, Mavic and Suntour mechs, Ofmega (?) hubs and Olympic Montreal tub rims etc. I rode it extensively at Uni (Glamorgan, any old bike club members out there?) until the fork crown started to unglue!!! Some nice chaps at Hotta in Totnes where I used to live put a bolt in that cured that problem. The bottom bracket shell seemed to be going the same way and I was forced to get a couple of Mike Kowell frames made. (Very good steel frames at an unbelievably reasonable cost!!) Does anyone know if technology has moved on sufficiently to Bring it back? I tried Pritt and Uhu with no success. Someone said that Vitus were glued together as well. Are these repaired or do they just disappear? Help!!

Unlike Vitus frames, Alan tubes are not just glued into the lugs, but are threaded.

But it is a point from which there is no return when they unscrew, as far as I know.
