I doubt very much that GB factory drilled their stems for c/pull wires, more likely that Fred in the Shed did them!
GB catalogues don't show the option of drilled stems.

I'd better throw a Raleigh in here - just completed a rustoration of this 1949 Raleigh Sports, all original parts - taken to bits, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. I had to repaint the headlamp though as it's so "in your face"!

Me and a friend have an agreement - if we see anything cheap and interesting (bicycle related) we buy it between us.
So he came up with these last week, 3 Raleigh Zeniths, two gents and one ladies, all heavily modified for serious touring.
Apparently the previous owner was a "bit of an engineer"...
I bought one about 4 years ago whilst on holiday in Norfolk, a local bike man asked £20 for it - win!
Got it home and there were three £1 coins and a puncture repair kit in the saddlebag - win win!
Cleaned it up and sold it on very quickly - win win win!

Probably not much help to you - but I bought an old Ribble alloy frame from a car boot sale, added a few bits to "hybridify" it and sold if for £140. Rode like the wind. Can't keep them all!
That would be about right - this one was auctioned in 87 according to the MoD release papers, it's been stood in a shed ever since!
Interestingly the auctions for all these were about a mile from where I now live and the same place I bought my first one from in 1987.

Me and a mate have just purchased this little beauty - we both had one back in the 80s when they were first auctioned off, happy days green laning!
Can't wait to get stuck into sorting this one out. :)
