    Wanted Cheap left hand thumbshifter

If you could use a matched pair, would you prefer a properly functioning set of Shimano EM friction shifters (nice ratchet mechanism) from the Deer Head era?

    Wanted Cheap left hand thumbshifter

It has, but it’s not very functional: might be okay in friction (they’re from the 6 spd era).

    Wanted Cheap left hand thumbshifter

I’ve got an XT M730 which I’ve been hanging onto for sentimental reasons 🙄 but I’m sure it would be much happier out in the wild doing some shifting.

    WHERE ARE THEY NOW......?

Yep, in years of trawling the internet I’ve only found a pic of one other:

    Grit Picker

Hadn’t seen that before, and not sure how I’ve managed without … I did fall for the Vetta chain cleaner thingy in about 1990, and while I love a Hite Rite (in the same way that I love a Trio Bar) I’ve never seen one work.

Back to the 80's i shall go.

    V. Nicely done. I like these - lugged, and check out the star bottle-brazeons and window seat stay bridge. Even OG outfits like Rivendell are struggling to keep steel frame details affordable, and you can pick up 80s quality for nowt.

How to true Shimano ‘opposite lock’ wheels?

Aw, bloody hell - they need a 4.3mm dedicated spoke wrench. Can feel my “being arsed” ebbing away. Anyone want some Shimano wheels? rear a little out of true, front hardly at all. Barely used Conti tyres included.

How to true Shimano ‘opposite lock’ wheels?

Thanks - they do look like a solution to a problem that never existed: I haven’t had a tinker yet, but increasing tension would seem to want to twist the rim and effect circularity before helping any lateral movement. Which would suggest that left and right spokes need to be almost exactly the...

Any special tricks to trueing these bassackward puppies?

    Cannondale R500 Road Bike

Thanks for heads up: picked this up today. Very good nick- looks like a ‘92 that’s been updated over time.

    Can anyone id this crankset?

From Velobase (in the link above): “These cranks are not the same as the similar-looking version with the lazy-S logo. The flag version were the top, cold-forged model.”

Any interest in sprint wheels for tubs?

Yes, I bagged a couple of Corsas from Condor when you outed them a while back (thanks!). But the bargains sell out leaving Rally’s which I can’t get on with (ok spare under the saddle). A good range at Bikeinn still though.

    Stumpjumper Team

Yes! Somewhere in the mists of internet 1.0 I posted some videos of different tube “pings”. Will see if I can find in the archives (lugged Prestige and 1940s Reynolds were the most sonorous).

Any interest in sprint wheels for tubs?

Yes Deffo worth the effort (incidentally, I read somewhere that a certain Tom Ritchey supported his fledgling frame building ambitions by repairing tubs - back when there must have been good demand).

Any interest in sprint wheels for tubs?

Tubs are superb: they ride so well; but there is a vast difference between cheap ones and good ones. I’m running Vittoria Pave, and have been for a few years (not huge mileages). One of them punctured. Using the internet, I made an incision, found the hole in the tube, patched it and sewed it...

    WHERE ARE THEY NOW......?

Yep. This one’s been ongoing since the late 80s when I couldn’t find one so bought a 1988 model (which I still have). 1987 Stumpjumper Team. Yes, it’s a Specialized, yes it was there in a thousand catalogue pics - but the 87 Teams were built by Dave Tesch. He and Specialized reportedly had an...

    Can anyone id this crankset?

Looks like a Specialized “flag”: if memory serves, made by Sugino? But not sure about that. ‘80s. Pretty cool. Link to Velobase Specialized flag

    Fillet brazed Woodrup circa 1989

Sweet: is the clover leaf a nod to colnago? And why is it dripping with campy? Woodrup Italian connection? Custom order for a Colnago fan? Incidentally, that’s a big tyre and still has *some* clearance: and it looks like the chainstays are not crimped outside or inside, but are bent and...

Wheelies - Who can do them ?

Learned to do them on a Grifter, then forgot; thought I’d better relearn on my adult MTB - scuffed up the mudguards…. (I have however passed on the importance of being able to wheelie to my boys who are proficient.)
