    French thread cutters? Bonkers

Ah, I see! How do I know if they are left or right hand cup dies (or does it matter, do they cut both?) I've got really old set of french dies from the 1920s, and they are marked left and right. I'm pretty sure they are VAR on account there were a lot of VAR tools in the same lot

Found this locally for cheap, but unsure of the provenance of it. Chesini?

No, it's actually etched onto the die

    French thread cutters? Bonkers

I bought three thread cutters, for a good price. I reckon they are probably 1950s, they look like VAR but can't be sure. I'll upload photos later but they are very weird sizings. One of them is 35.2mm the other 36.15mm. This is probably a question for Bikeworkshop, is this normal, to be...

    the Animal

Graeme Obree came quickly to the realisation that he could only compete in the opening prologue. I hope he got paid well for it, hard to train and race your whole career for a one day event 😲

    Lightest Steel Frame?

I inherited a Merckx Max frame from one of my old race pals when he gave up the sport. Although it was a bit of the chunky side (heavy) it was a great stiff ride, which had suited him because he was a monster of a sprinter. No one could get near him in a mass finish, he definitely cited the...

    Lightest Steel Frame?

For a variety of reasons, I've got quite a few steel frames (mostly because I've got the space, a 120sq m loft) I've got roughly 6 working order carbon frames, and all of them with the exception of a Trek Madone have some sort of 'saved by glue and luck' damage to them. My favourite is a 2004...

    Lightest Steel Frame?

That's a very nicely put together frame! Good job, I don't think I've ever seen a steel frame that intricate or lightweight 👍 The lightest small production frame in ever got my hands on was a Lemond 853, I think it was a 50cm, picked it up cheap for my niece. It was just a smidge over 1200gr. It...

    Lightest Steel Frame?

I've got a Columbus spirit Carrera frame, it's stupid light at 1530gr, AND a full chrome rear triangle. I didn't think much of it at first till I built it up and then, wow! A real joy to ride also with a bespoke decor paint finish. Makes you wonder what a bare unpainted frame would weigh in at...

Pre Campagnolo: FB, Fratello Brivio. I've got a LF set of these from the 1950s with grease nipple. Like very similar

History Of The Urago Marque, & Family

Relatively hard to find (in good condition) in France, the head badges are real Collectors pieces. I've got two, and a 3 speed Urago from the 50s with a seat stay mount Simplex gear lever. Not suicide, but damn as near it 😲😂 The head badge is Francois Urago, a well known 'stayer' of the era.

    Carbon repairers? Advice

Yeah that's what I was thinking when I picked it up, throw in a couple of bits of fibre mat and a load of epoxy wait for it to cure and then sand it back to round/flat. The guy said he did the damage on a turbo trainer, could be bollox but it doesn't look an impact site. It's only gonna see use...

    Lightest Steel Frame?

I'm very surprised there are no UK or European builders adopting the Tange Ultimate tube set - surely a viable competitor to fragile Carbon construction. Maybe it's not in the retail chain yet and still in 'development', I can't see it in any frame tube distribution channels, not even in China...

    Lightest Steel Frame?

These guys from Weapon are making nice lightweight steel frames. It doesn't say what brand of tube it is, but if triple butted probably Tange at 1500gr. https://weaponbicycle.com/product/weapon-tc03-lightweight-steel-track-frame-steel/

    Carbon repairers? Advice

I've bought this vintage American Classic (turn of the millennium) wheel to try and repair it. I've watched a few videos with carbon repair sheet and epoxy, but I'm intrigued if it could be simply be 'filled'. The damage is light and it's no more than 0.75mm deep. The wheel won't see a lot of...

    Eroica tyres

I've ridden Eroica Tuscany twice now, it's nowhere near as rough as it's made out to be. Last time I was rolling on 23mm Contis and the were no issues. I did see a couple of crazy Italians on 19mm tubs, but there were no punctures (that I heard of). When I were a lad 21mm tyres were all the go...

    Colnago or No Go?

Looking at the cut outs in the lugs, I had a bit of a revelation. I think this is a Ciocc which someone has fairly poorly mugged up as a Colnago. God knows why. Ciocc is a beautiful frame, the bottom bracket cut out is the stone cold giveaway, it's just not right. The forks are legit though...

    Colnago or No Go?

The forks are legit, I thought it was a Sport myself at first but they don't have the cut out bracket or Colnago engraved on the forks (they're plain cinelli type crowns). I think it's the real deal, but it's definitely not a Super, or a Mexico. Could be a Competition, and early one, they were...
