    Also the extra weight is advantageous for larger frames (like yours) as it's a stiffer frame as a result.

    My father in law worked exactly like that in a bike factory somewhere in West London in the mid 1950s. My first almost decent bike was a Halfords Olympic, bought secondhand on the Caledonian Road in 1984. It was gas pipe of course.

Hollow BBs were a case in point: a strong story at the expense of undersized bearings with a pitiful life. Similarly a lot of the hubs...

    It looks like someone has tried (badly) to respray the faded fork and stem, they should be glossy. Note the overspray on the stem label. The frame looks 100% right.

    Eldridge was red, but as the paint was fluoro it faded badly and then looks orange like the Pine Mountain. The frame and fork tubing was identical anyway between the two.

    Correct, but the differences between Pine Mtn, Aldridge and BVSE was in kit only. The frames were identical.

    One other point: rather than cutting down a threaded steerer to get the locknut tight enough, simply add an ahead spacer in between.
