Wanted Titanium (or even steel) frame

Hi everyone, I'm looking to start a new project so I would like to buy a titanium (or even a steel) frame if it's out of the ordinary. Ideally, it has to be in size 16-17" with 1 1/8 head tube. I could consider some frames with 1'' steering head tube too. My budget is varied depending on...

    1996 Yo Eddy

yep I think so. In Germany, Fat Chances usually sell for good money. They have retained their value for some reason. Check here for example to get an idea of what's available for sale at the moment: https://www.kleinanzeigen.de/s-fahrraeder/seite:2/fat-chance/k0c217

In Europe I believe this would fetch anywhere between 1600 to 1900 euros.

    Spotted on the street

I am speechless! I have read about this bike and Bugatti designing it specifically with smaller diameter tubes set but I thought it was only on paper and he never materialized this design.

    Lightest Steel Frame?

Thanks a lot for these insights! It’s pretty interesting to read how frame builders see the different quailities of steel when selecting the correct type of tubing for a frame. For me this is the most fascinating part of building and riding retro bikes as I really feel that the selection of...

    Lightest Steel Frame?

Interesting take on Max! I have tried a Serotta T Max and it’s hands down the stiffest and most responsive frame I had ever experienced from steel bikes. I think ovalisation plays a role in it. It’s not just the widest diameter of the tubes that matter.

    Lightest Steel Frame?

Great story @bulgie! It goes to say steel is right there as a top material for lightweight frame building if you know how to work well with it. I am sure the time will come when the bike industy will re-invent the wheel once more and discover and remarket the benefits of steel over carbon...

    New build: Scapin TR-X 1997

Yes for its size I would expect it to be below 1900 so this sounds close enough. I just hope I meet someone in one of the retro meet ups with a Scapin one day so I finally try it. Enjoy it!

    New build: Scapin TR-X 1997

I always wanted one of these! Remember their ads in Italian MTB magazines from BITD. The level of details these frames have are unsurpassable in my view. Their selling point would be the selection of tubing but Scapin didn’t push this a lot in their advantage. Anyhow, enjoy the rides with it...

    1991 Offroad Toad

Very neat work as always Kay! The thing with the internal top tube rust is not so worrisome. I would use a flexible rod with some brush or sand paper on it end to rub the rust dry first. Then use a hoover to empty all the removed rust. An finally apply the frame saver. This would stop the rust...

Question on fork options for 100mm sus corrected frame

So I am warming up on the idea of a Moots YBB and even though the frame has a bit of suspension as you know, I don’t fancy a front one. Still though I was looking at my options yesterday and don’t see anything in terms of a rigid fork with axle to crown big enough to replace a suspension one...

Question on fork options for 100mm sus corrected frame

Thanks a lot! In fact I was counting on a Fox F100 and their 470mm the a-c measurement to go cause this is the one sus fork used the most with the frame in mind (its a MOOTS YBB btw). Also, I wasn't factoing in static sag. That's good to know. Unfortunately, P2s don't have more than 430mm a-c...

Question on fork options for 100mm sus corrected frame

Hi everyone, I am warming up on the idea of getting a 97' hardtail frrame (for V-Brakes) that is speced for 100mm suspension forks. If I want to go rigid and use a fork that has the correct axle to crown measurements (I believe that's 482mm for most 100mm sus forks) what are my options? I...
