Spinning bearings - in the wrong way entirely…

Disclaimer - haven't tried it, no idea if it will work, and it's up to you! But from the options you have, it seems like the only reasonable option?

Why won’t any v brake pads fit ?

I think these will work: https://www.pedalpedlar.co.uk/products/d-bpi-s4c-tektro-shimano-xt-br-m737-864-11-nos-nib-classic-cantilever-brake-pad-inserts There seem to be more options for the full holders with pads than just the pads... I think you need M737 canto pads, someone else can...

    Unknown aero shifter bike

Spiral "barber pole" paint on the seat tube is a Mercian thing, probably not exclusive to them though

Why won’t any v brake pads fit ?

If I'm not wrong, those pad holders are for cantis, not Vs. You will need the specific XT pads. XTR might also fit.

    Modern steel frame options?

So thinking about @Fatal Swan 's lovely Hewitt, I've been doing some googling 🤦‍♂️ Just wondering what options there are for modern steel road frames? Racing/fast road rather than touring or Audax. TIG or fillet brazed, threaded BB, preferably rim brake, but without discarding discs as an...

I really like the look of this! Good weight too!

    Cobra project

Looks good! The brakes don't stop well because they need adjusting - there is way too much slack on the straddle cables!

What is this leather strap on the rear wheel for?

The one in the pic looks a little longer than they usually are! I need some for my Sachs new success hubs which always tarnish

Fillet brazed off road adventure bike of unknown origin.

It has a fair few things in common with my Yates, but there are also quite a few differences and I don't think it is. Plenty of custom options available at most builders though, so it might be difficult to determine 100%!

Cheap NOS Nuovo Record rear mech

I often think that while some people misuse "NOS", there are many more that simply don't know what it actually means, they see it in other listings and just use it! Could be the case here... It's so blatantly not NOS that surely anyone who knows what it means wouldn't use it! Unless they're...

    Frames with a 1 14 headtube

My lad's u-brake version GT Pantera is 1_1/4" threaded. I imagine other GTs from that period will be the same

8 Speed Cassette too wide for 8 Speed Hub. SOLVED!

Try a different locking, the one in the photos looks quite thick, plus if the threaded section is longer than usual then it will be tightening against the hub and not the cassette, that would explain the loose sprockets with tightened lockring.

Odd TOP PUSH shimano deore dx front derailleur

Standard mech, with an adapter for the outer cable. Trek frames don't have a cable stop for the outer, they used this method instead with the specific outer

Thinking slightly more modern, erm, retro-mod....

Just a quick observation which might or might not be no longer relevant... Unless things have changed, I am pretty certain that caygills don't paint their own frames, but send them away. When I got my road frame repainted a fair few years ago, I took it straight to Bob Jackson's, who were...

Why is one side/drop out of my fork like this?

as usual it looks like Sheldon has the answer, almost - scroll down to "dropout clips" under "secondary retention devices", and there is something very similar https://www.sheldonbrown.com/skewers.html
