Chris Boardman TRISpoke Carbon Fibre Rim

Value is very hard to say, even if you could get it 100% verified, I wouldn't want to start putting a figure on it myself. Also, I don't know about how you go about proving provenance when it's a case of 'this person knew this person, who knew this person' sort of thing. No doubt there are...

Chris Boardman TRISpoke Carbon Fibre Rim

Interesting - given how you found it, I strongly suspect it's the real deal (just because why would someone put CB's name on a wheel and put that on a bike, unless they were trying to sell it for big money with some made up-story attached to it). But, the same questions remain, of course. Who...

Chris Boardman TRISpoke Carbon Fibre Rim

Obviously it looks the part, but with anything like this it's all about proving (or at least, knowing) the provenance of the object. Meaning, you'd have to be sure of where the person who sold it actually got it from, and how many hands its been through, going right back to its origin, really...

They didn't pour water on the Brooks did they? Lovely but spendy Ciocc

Yes, I'd like new bar tape and some gears for my £900, please. It'll never sell for that, anyway.

    Today's Ride

I managed to get out this morning before the temperature got too silly on a shakedown ride for my latest build. I came across this rather handy looking camper conversion, which happened to co-ordinate quite well with my bike. It had come all the way from Austria. I sometimes wonder what people...

1980s chromed 'Bob Read Cycles' restomod

I couldn't have asked for a much better day for a shakedown ride – not a cloud in the sky, perfect conditions in which to dazzle other road users with the gleam of sunshine on chrome  . Here's a few photos from my usual photo beauty spot. Also, here it has the Shimano RS80 wheelset on...

    £50 MB Dronfield (Large) SE.London

These are easy to date, by the way - the first two numbers of the frame number are the year. This one looks to be around 1990ish.

    £50 MB Dronfield (Large) SE.London

Does this mean it's no longer in a lock-up in a dodgy part of SE London? Also, that paint is a lot more pink that I was expecting. MBs of this era did tend towards these somewhat interesting paintjobs.

    For Sale Weinmann Concave Rims - Black, 700c, 36h - £30 posted

Weinmann Concave Rims - 700c 36 hole - fairly unusual black versions. As the photos show, one rim is more glossy than the other - I don't think these were variations, it's just how they came from the factory, I think. I only noticed this when they were taken off the bike and I removed the hubs...

1980s chromed 'Bob Read Cycles' restomod

100% agree with you there. Even though it would generally be a bit silly to be riding anything retro if I was that worried about weight, I am still sometimes guilty of getting a bit hung up on it, probably, due to the amount of climbing I do. But there are plenty of other aspects of a bike that...

    Dawes 'Lightweight' Model? I.D Help

Actually, I just noticed the brakes are also slightly more modern (1996) replacements for the originals - but they will be better, so I'd keep those unless you really want it to be 100% catalogue correct. Also, it wasn't unusual with the bigger brands for the actual bikes that ended up in shops...

1980s chromed 'Bob Read Cycles' restomod

Cheers. Yes, I will keep the decals even if I’m not the biggest fan, as it doesn’t feel right to get rid of some of the history of the bike. I’ll take it for a short ride tomorrow and see how it feels.

    Dawes 'Lightweight' Model? I.D Help

It’s a Dawes Impulse. Here’s another example: Here’s the 1991 catalogue, when it had a slightly different paint job, so yours is a few years earlier, I think.

    Dawes 'Lightweight' Model? I.D Help

Welcome to the forum, that’s a great buy. It all looks original apart from the stem, seatpost, saddle and as you say, the front wheel. That saddle is very nice so a rather good upgrade from what the original would have been. The front wheel is a very common Mavic model, so you should be able to...

1980s chromed 'Bob Read Cycles' restomod

It's now done, more or less (I need some black skewers, but that's about it). In the end both the stem and seatpost are ones I already had which I sprayed black. I realised that with the throw-forward of the shifters I ideally wanted quite a short stem to get a comfortable reach, so I settled...

Benson Veteran Cycle Club Rally 2025 photos

Great to see these. What for the love of God is the bike with the number 23 on it? That thing looks horrendous to ride, with your knees in front of the bars 😬
