    Bar width

GET OUT OF THE FORUM. Sock height is extremely important! Otherwise we'd all look like Lance Armstrong.

    Rude lunchtime Rudy Project

A noise became apparent on the way to work. A not clearance noise: Spent a couple of minutes with a half-round file and relieved a couple of mm above the tyre: The Maxxis are the same size as the Halos that I took off but they're clearly a fair bit taller and I didn't notice. This should...

    Rude lunchtime Rudy Project

Decided this badboy needed some new tyres. Not been riding it much because most of my riding is commuting miles. I’m fixing that problem tomorrow. The Halo Twin Rails were looking decidedly crispy and well past their best. I always forget how short the wheelbase is on this thing compared to...

Help me choose the right brakes for my Dawes Galaxy.

Dumb question, because I’m not a canti expert, is that brake block up right way? It ‘looks’ upside down.

    Curious workshop ….

Looks pretty AI to me. Littered with AI mistakes, AI texturing, odd mix of workshop, tools and what’s going on, meaningless script on the decals, bizarre components etc etc.

New to Curly Hetchins (No. 2)

I’ve never really read up on Hetchins frames. I properly geeked out with that link!

Advice on buying first vintage road bike?

What is all this toe overlap 25mm tyre madness you’re all banging on about? I doubt my front wheel would even turn with balloons that big on it!

Ernie Clements 531 Falcon San Remo (finished!)

I’ve enjoyed this strip-down. Shame you’re not going to be keeping it after all that hard work!

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Aha, didn't know about that rear mech as it looks like a cheaper plastic one at a passing glance. I looked it up and my life has been enriched by reading this: https://www.disraeligears.co.uk/site/suntour_derailleurs_-_frank_berto_and_the_curse_of_duopar.html Great article!

Yellow Hobbs winter beater of distinction (WBOD)

Awesome, I was trying to gauge the distance from Weybridge to the Greywell tunnel and if it was all rideable. Must be about 25 miles then.

Yellow Hobbs winter beater of distinction (WBOD)

Thanks for the tip - might pass you down there one day then! This wasn’t really the right bike to be riding down there tbh. 25mm slicks weren’t the right choice for that surface so next time I’ll either take the Herse or go on a mountain bike.

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Lol Woz! Joking aside, I wonder what happened to that one? The thread is from 5 years ago. Interesting seeing the changes that happened to RH bikes over a 30 year period. Mine is an early one, that is a late one and most RHs you see are somewhere in the middle. The cranks are quite different -...

Yellow Hobbs winter beater of distinction (WBOD)

I nipped into Woking earlier to pick up a few things and on the way back decided to check out the canal that I could see from the main road (I’m still new to the area). Wow, turns out there’s a lovely towpath down there that goes on for miles. Took a snap at Lock 6, which is a very...

Late 40s / Early 50s René Herse tip find

Yeah it’s a matter of remembering which bike I’m on. My muscle memory is very much for the Crosstop lever on my fixed daily because I’ve done a lot more miles on that bike than any of the others. I only have to be careful if I’m riding on the straight part of the tops, because in an emergency...
