    Asian "Brooks" saddle modification

It's been almost 2 decades since I've done any leatherwork, so not exactly fresh terminology and things might have changed, but "skiving" is a term for thinning down leather, either reducing the thickness of the whole sheet (say, 5mm to 3mm) or feathering out the edges (Say, 4mm to 1mm over the...

Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

I'd go after all the &%$s with offshore accounts first, and big corporates that dodge UK taxes. But that's too much work and too difficult to swallow politically. So yeah, let's see if we can bully private sellers into overpaying taxes instead.

Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

Has anyone figured out how to "easy" post parcel over 65cm? Because afaik RM refuse to take anything longer. I had some woodworking tools & jigs that ebay's AI figured I can post in a padded envelope. They need a 90cm-long box . The only way round it that I can think of is to list them in...

Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

In theory - yes. In practice, HMRC have no problem bullying people into claiming that they owe them tax when they do not. And it's almost always a "guilty until proven innocent" approach that they take. Used to deal with them regularly when I worked as an accountant.

Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

Lewis hamilton can buy a private jet without paying vat and the likes of apple and amazon pay bugger all taxes in the UK, while all the bastards in the government have their wealth in offshore funds. But God have mercy on you if you happen to make a tenner on selling some old crap on ebay...

Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

Order, Order! We're digressing from bashing braindead idiots in charge of ebay to bashing braindead idiots in charge of everything else. One thing I've noticed with ebay these days - once the listing goes beyond the first one-two weeks it starts getting close to 0 clicks. It never used to be...

Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

They are rolling it out in stages it seems. Mrs could only select "simple" while I could select custom until this morning. Braindead morons in charge of ebay these days.

Hi All. Clearing the bike shed. Tap & Die set for M25x1 and M35x1 (French 😍 threads) for steerer and bottom bracket. Do a good job chasing threads and I used the M25x1 to tap a couple lockrings for Sheldon Brown-style threadless hack. £52 posted in UK tracked; Adjustable hand reamers that...

No Takers? That seatpost is worth £50 alone, according to some ebay sellers

    Romani retromod. Columbus TSX.

I thought about highlighting the engravings, but I fear it will be as disastrous as trying to do the lug lining myself. The very interesting bit is the handling. I've read stories that TSX makes a frame that is way too stiff and unpleasant to ride. It might be the case if your weight is 50kg...

The shape of things to come....

That's the difference between a salesman (who doesn't need to know anything apart from how much commission he's getting from Widget A and widget B) and a technical subject matter expert. But why are salesmen fixing bikes in Evans?🤔

The shape of things to come....

I've posted this a couple years ago. A conversation I had with a young sales guy in Evans outside my work: - Do you sell rim-brake 650B rims in 32 hole drilling? - Sorry, what? - 650B rims drilled for 32 spokes. - Just a moment, I'll ask our mechanic expert... Mechanic expert sticks his head out...

    Romani retromod. Columbus TSX.

Thanks guys. I'm not a fan of decals, but I do wonder if there's anyone who can cut/etch a custom headbadge. Afaik Romani never had a headbadge, but I'm sure I can design one for them.

Wanted 21" ish Frame / Bike

Have a custom built (one-off?) Huni 26er MTB rigid frameset with Oria tubing. It's toxic pink colour though.

    Romani retromod. Columbus TSX.

The plan was simple: get the frame powdercoated, then take all the gear from my current road bike and put it on the Romani. I really like my PX Spitfire, in fact, until now, it's been the best road bike I've had. But it has one big problem: the frame is Ti and the fork is CF. When I'm riding a...

    Romani retromod. Columbus TSX.

Since I only dig retromods, this one was getting a bunch of "modern" parts and a 9x1 drivetrain. The car strike damage was very handy - it moved the ds side dropout a few mm out, so it was perfectly placed to take a 130mm hub. The left side had to be adjusted with a floorboard, and oh boy, this...

    Romani retromod. Columbus TSX.

Romani... A name that needs no introduction. I'm sure you all remember the TV ad: "If you have a little mani, Buy yourself a fast Romani." You all know the brand and you've all longed for it, but only a few of us are lucky enough to perch our bottoms on this pinnacle of Italian framebuilding...
