    Paint stripper

I breathed in the vapour from boiling caustic soda once. Spent a few moments wondering if a trip to hospital was going to be necessary. Or the undertaker.

    Wheelbuilders' thoughts...

If you put a bend in the rim, you can't really straighten them well unless you're lucky. Not recommended for knocking around on. These wheels get put in the scrap faster than those with an even spoke pattern. Also bear in mind cheap wheels have cheap spokes, which tend to get brittle and...

    Paint stripper

Most corrosive chemicals taste burn-ey - the flavour will come from your own melting cells. Don't even think of doing a Kojak!

    Paint stripper

Paint stripper effectiveness depends on the composition of the paint. Heat removes almost everything.

👋 New here: GT LTS 1996. Advice welcome!

This mid 90s bike the owner would have fitted vs as soon as they were available. I saw no cantis at the mtb race start line by 97, but the LTS was still looking good and performing well - so it's a period correct upgrade👌

    Mechanical gear cable routing options

External fittings have had a standard for a very long time, so are likely to be available well into the future. Wires for gear shifting could easily be run through the breather holes within the frame if they are well positioned and wide enough. I've seen a few ti frames broken on cable/hose...

    Mechanical gear cable routing options

We see loads of modern frames failed at the cable/hose entry point, and old ones too. You have to accept that if you have a structural tube and then drill a hole in it, you deffo haven't made it stronger🤣 But as well as a stress riser, you've also added an ingress point for muck and corrosive...

Is it possible to alter a rear Campagnolo Hub? Advice please.

These axles are usually a 9.5mm? thread not standard, so unless you have a 126 campag axle of similar period it will be easiest to cut 4mm off the existing. You should then be able to reduce the spacers each side by 2mm, giving you the right end result. The NDS does look a bit close, but I'd...
