Identify my (1950s?) Claud Butler track frame!

Ok, this is where I'm up to. Bayliss Wiley bottom bracket is fitted and looks like the axle length is fine. Williams crankset ready for its cotter pins. The rear wheel took ages to find and isn't right but will do for now. Campy front wheel is horrible and will be replaced when I build a new...

Identify my (1950s?) Claud Butler track frame!

Hi all, Haven't been on this forum in ages (sorry) but I'm finally starting to build up this Olympic Sprint after 7 years of ownership... So, I've sourced a decent 50s stem and bars, brake and saddle. Turning to the bottom bracket, which will have cottered cranks, I realise I have no idea...

    Birmalux seat post help!!!

Hi all, Back on the forum after a lengthy hiatus and hoping someone can help with a (hopefully) basic question! I've just bought a vintage Tierney, which came with a Birmalux seat post. In a wave of über confidence I removed the saddle and took off these parts (pic below). Now I realise I have...

Identify my (1950s?) Claud Butler track frame!

Re: Not yet :( One day I'll give this beauty the build up it deserves. Until then it's the best wall art ever! Thing is, I don't want to build a hip fixie and the forks need rechroming before anything else happens... and I have no suitable bits yet to get going!

rBoTM April and May Vote Now!!

Throw a return flight to your Swiss hilltop and I'm in. Sucker for wishbone stays, that's me. No vote for the Vitus is a bit shabby though. :(

Re: Thanks! It is lovely! 8) Build is probably going to be delayed while I move house, so there won't be any progress updates for a while. In the meantime, here's a clean ass shot, showing the lovely pencil stays… Lugs came up nice, too… That's all for now. Cheers, Don

Identify my (1950s?) Claud Butler track frame!

Re: Thanks Jamie! Used nothing more powerful than warm, soapy water and baby wipes - took hours, but it was kind of cathartic. The previous owner had obviously left the frame next to his shed whilst creosoting! Then, I went for tin foil/coke and metal polish for the chrome. To be honest...

Identify my (1950s?) Claud Butler track frame!

Re: Thanks fellas! Never fixed a headset with loose bearings before, so this is going to be interesting! Thanks also for advice about the build. I don't think I'm going to source original 50s components (the budget isn't there for that kind of extravagance), but some nice 70s gear would be...
