I've got a 1" threaded headset that I can't seem to get started on either of the 1" threaded forks I've got. I don't have another 1" headset to try so am wondering if the headset could be Italian threads but have no way of telling. The headset is an Ultegra HP-6500
Any ideas?

Italian headset ?
Are you thinking bottom brackets ?

Ah sorry, you mean the M25x1" jobs 'French' ?
Are there any marking under the locknut ?

Is it damaged in any way? Will the locknut thread on ?

EDIT/
May also mention something on the black seal on the locknut if it has one.

Yeah, IIRC it was just the angle that the threads were cut that differed?

I can't get either the top race or the locknut to screw on either forks. The only markings are on the top race which are HP-6500 BC1 BK BH. The one time I though I had the locknut on and a gentle 1/4 turn resulted in the locknut thread starting to strip:evil:

I'm pretty sure the threads are good on both the steerers as they have recently been removed from bikes by competent members of this good forum!

Just English JIS and ISO and the M25 French, the latter being French means being metric so it's all change, close but rounded of.
So 25mm not 25.4mm diameter and threads are 1mm
the " should have been mm in my bit above.
M25x1mm

So it will not fit.

You lost me a little there!

There are 3 sizes
- English JIS
- English ISO, these are the same with the only really noticeable bit being the crown race diameter.

- French M25, very slightly different in the threading making it incompatible.

- There is no Italian, which is the angled thread you are thinking off.

It sounds like you have M25, but the code say English (BC1)
After that I don't know much else.
The dimensions are in the tech document I linked to.

Ask in the Road section, it's a road headset they may know better.

Thanks Fluffy. Think I'll take the locknut off the missus 1" Kona and try that.
