I have a Honda CLR125 which is 11bhp. I'd like to make the most of the 15bhp we're allowed on L-plates. What easy tuning options do I have? Air filter?

Also, is it worth changing sprockets sizes, as I am happy to sacrifice acceleration for top speed as most of my 13 miles commute is on a dual carriageway and it struggles to get above 60-65 unless with a following wind (to be fair that is its max design speed)... i.e. bigger front, smaller rear. Not by much but to take it to 70 maybe?

edd ,probably better seeking an xl 185 motor
theres not a lot to be done cheap to make them faster ,tho thinking
about it you might be able to get quad tuning gear for that motor
or pit bike stuff ,again wont be cheap
tho pb mag did nitrous one bitd

sell it and buy a 2stroke rs125 or similar , faster out the box and tuneable up to about 30 hp in race spec , my mate chalkie had a road going one with 30rwbhp ,loads of fun

I'm still on L-plates though so have to stick with 125 and 15bhp (to be legal)... very happy with bike otherwise as it's big for a 125.

can it not be derestricted some how?
I no its not the same bike, but years ago I had a Kawasaki KDX 125 and to
derestict it all that had to be done was knock a washer out of the front of the exhaust. Dont no what it did  but it was faster and pretty simple.

.

There will probably be some form of restriction in the exhaust.
And as you say possibly a less restrictive air filter would help.
Gearing wise you could go up 1 or 2 teeth on the front sprocket.
You could also change the rear but fronts are about 1/3 the cost of rears

When on the dual carriageway head down arse up for extra streamline effect    would help if you were a foot shorter of course

Hi check to see if there is a dyno jet kit for your model of bike, ie biger jets and better air filter and change the sprocket sizes, but watch out for the chain rubbing on anything. , maybe go 1-2 teeth bigger at the front and 1-2 teeth smaller at the back, no more than that. AND remember engine design speed means that over revving the bike in gong kill the engine, so it's good to go with the gearing option rather than thrashing the engine. and yes maybe aftermarket exhaust if using bigger jet and filter.

whats the best 125cc out there for value for money, reliability, performance etc?

want a 125cc this year, do my CBT on it etc.

If you want the bike just to get through your CBT and ride around on a bit before doing your full test then you can't go wrong with a second hand Honda CG.

If you're going for a bike to run for a longer period of time avoid the cheap Chinese imports, but maybe take a look at the offerings from Hyosung.

I'd run it for 130 mile trips to the girlfriends etc so needs to handle my heavy weight and be decent performance over the b roads.

.

With your recent bike history you will be wanting a suzuki VanVan :D :D
In all seriousness, a cracking little bike
