2000 GT Timberline (plus Genesis and Orange content)

Retro Newbie
Hey

I just recently and sadly sold my 1991 Orange Clockwork on ebay, great bike just not used - if only it had a 1 1/8 steer. Anyway last Saturday I picked up my new Genesis Altitude 10 (with blue 00 frame) as a replacement for my old daily. Just to tickle your fancy the Genesis has since had added Easton EA70 white bars, Shimano DX pedals and Easton EC70 seatpost.

Anyway the reason for my post, other than to show of my new pride and joy, is I'm selling my previous bike a 2000 GT Timberline which has been completely upgraded. My question is, was the Timberline well know? I think its a great steel frame, but I never see or hear of others. I'm wondering weather I might be better off changing the frame to make it more sell-able.

The current spec is:

2000 20" GT Timberline Frame
2004 Rockshox Duke SL
2005 XT Crankset, F&R mechs
Deore shifters
Avid Single Digit 3 V Brakes (frame doesn't have disc mount)
Deore hubs on mavic 521's and Maxxis High Roller XC's
Race Face Evole Bar and Stem
2009 WTB Speed V Ti Race saddle
Standard Seatpost
Wellgo V8 copies.

I'm watching a few Specialized frame for my girlfriend and they seem to be going cheap-ish and much better know. Plus they will have a rear disc mount which would be a good selling point as I have a spare M575 rear disc...

Comments welcome.

Ash

unless you have a potential buyer for your bitsa, you'd be MUCH better off stripping the Timberline down & selling all the parts off separately... not many people will be looking for that model and not many would expect one to be so upgraded either... possible buyers would probably want original spec for sentimental (ie first proper MTB etc) reasons but while a decent basic frame it's nowt special despite the fact that you've adorned it with an assortment of decent kit.

Thanks for your response. Having broken cars for parts before and knowing how long it takes to shift everything I've just purchased a Specialized rockhopper 2005 frame to transfer all the bits to and sell a complete bike.

Also since my last posted I've bought a Carrera (Medina) Jackerwock for the gf, tasty spec but swapping my 2003 TFT RS Pylso's on to it. Should be lovely then.

Sage advice from semi professional bike builder/DJ extraordinaire Mr Rats there.

He also makes a decent cup of tea too y'know... :)
