'90 or '91 Marin Palisades?

I picked up this Palisades on the way home tonight. It's in pretty good shape for it's age - and wheels, saddle, too small seat post, and pedals aside, is all original.

The guy selling it had been commuting on it and thought it was about 10 years old.

I think it's a '90 but it's a much darker grey than my '90 Pine Mountain - it's the same shade as my '91 Eldridge. Maybe it's just dirty (I haven't washed it yet). Or maybe it's pre-'90?

Thoughts welcome.

Re:

I think it's a 1990. Around 1991 they changed to the fatter "afterburner" rear stays. My Pine Mountain has a 1990 frame number and had similar, slender stays, but was a pale gloss grey, which I think was the 1989 colour. :?

I think there may have been some odd "mix up" models between 1989 and 1990 as they were switching from the earlier thin stays and from the earlier paint colours to the later zolatone colour.

There's a thread about frame numbers here which may shed more light on it: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... mp;t=37430

Thanks for the link Xerxes, I'll clean up the bike this weekend and investigate the frame number.

The neon parts are pretty scruffy - there are a few areas of rust and some bad fading in places. I'm already looking into getting them re-coated. Not sure if I'll replace the decals just yet.

And yep, managed to find my way to Sydney.
