Here's a question I've been meaning to ask;

Would it be possible to install a set of Avid Shorty Ultimate cantilever brakes on the Canti mounts on my Dynatech?

Re:

AFAIK, any modern canti brakes should fit on any modern canti post mount. E.g. I've installed new Shimano cantis
on a 1980s cyclocross fork without any problems at all.

The two main problems you might encounter are:

1) You have to make sure your brake levers are for cantis and not v-brakes. V brake levers have a different cable
pull and won't work for cantis (I am sure you know this aleady, but it's obviously worth repeating).

2) Some modern cantilevers have a wide profile that can cause you to catch your shoes on the brakes when dismounting.
Already a problem with cyclocross frames, it might be a bit more so on an MTB frame with wider seatstays.

Thanks man, I forgot about the levers! Only reason I asked this is that my MT4 has an unused Cantilever hanger thing at the rear and is fitted with Avid SD Brakes and SD levers and I thought I could keep the levers and fit Avid cati''s making it look sort of proper.

Re: Avid Shorty Ultimate canti's on retro MTB

Would Paul Neo retro cantilevers work (plus the matching levers) ?

Re:

I'd go for the Pauls Touring rather than the neo retro. Far better shape with a more 90s low profile to suit the dyna tech rather than the 80s Mafac style neo-retros. And they won't clip your heels all the time

Thank you for that! I never knew, will take a look

Re:

I'd stick with Vs. :P

Personally, I don't really got the Pauls Components thing, to me their stuff generally looks cheaper and less well finished than less expensive, mass produced components from Shimano, SRAM, Avid, etc. :?
