Superlight XC race ceramic wheels for rim brake only!
These are in very good used condition. They have probably done about 20 XC rides in total. There are a few light marks from normal use. Ceramic surfaces are fine and have loads of wear left in them, on one wheel it looks close to new.
Rear wheel could use a little spoke truing - I get a slight swish-swish on the blocks. Also rear bearings aren't as smooth as they used to be - there's no play or anything and still spin super sweet on the bike but you can feel a little roughness with your fingers when you twiddle the axle off the bike.
Designed as a system, each component was selected by legendary guru Mr. Keith Bontrager to compliment each other to lose weight and gain strength:
- DT Hugi 240 Bontrager-spec hubs in black. The European equivalent of Chris King, some say better, I'd say about as good but not as shiney! The ratchet drive is supposed to be stronger than King's, and the DT's are lighter. Maintenence-free stainless steel cartridge bearings, superbly sealed within the hub body. Lightweight oversized aluminium axles.
- DT Revolution black spokes, specced by Keith and then laced to Mr Bontragers design: 24-spoke radial front, 28-spoke rear with radial on non-cassette side.
- Bontrager Ceramic rims (black). Double eyeletted. Light and strong, great braking and Bontrager dependability. Front and rear specific. The rear rim has off-centre spokes to balance the spoke tensions, dramatically increasing wheel strength by reducing dish. Typical brilliant yet simple Bontrager design. Which works great. All the other wheel manufacturers are doing this now, Bontrager and Ritchey were on it in the 1990's!
Includes Velox rim tapes
Being ceramics, braking with V's is as good as my Avid Elixir discs. Plus the rims should last forever and the DT Hugi 240 are legendary for longevity and have all spares available should you ever need them. Spokes are replaceable with new DT Revolutions or any standard spoke you require if you ever need to rebuild one.
Weighed them on very accurate digital scales. Actual weights are 635g front, 840g rear. Damn light for such strong wheels.
Anyway... pics!
