Cables for centre-pull brakes

I have just bought a lovely new Raleigh Richmond, which I will upload some pictures of soon.

One of the first things I want to do is to replace the brake cables, as they're pretty old, and frayed as well.

The Weinmann centrepull brakes have a normal-looking cable running from the levers, and then what appears to be called a 'straddle' or 'bridge' cable connecting the two pivots. All the cables need replacing, but the straddles especially so. They don't seem too easy to find, however.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

I'll have a look. I have a complete Weimann display/storage case jammed full of bits such as bolts, clamps and just maybe some of those straddle wires. Don't hold your breath though as i am a bit slow doing that sort of thing.

That would be brilliant, thanks.

Do the straddle wires need replacing as often as normal brake cables? From various pictures I've seen of other Weinmann centrepulls, people seem to have left them looking pretty dark and corroded and just changed the main cable.

Yes the straddle cable doesn't need replacing anywhere near as often IMPE. If it looks a bit rusty/dulled just rub it with some fine sandpaper then apply a little oil or grease.
Job done.

Sorry. Found an empty bag and i remember now posting several to some one with the same request. Keeping the very last one for myself.

They are easy to construct yourself. MTB brake cable + cilindric bit with tiny set screw on the other end. A bit like shown with the left canti >> Yo

If they are smaller diameter than regular ATB brake cable you could opt for with cilindric bit with set screw on both ends. They are available in various diameters.

I will try to construct one and take a pic if I succeed.
