Campagnolo Ergopower 7 speed levers?

Hi - all my research leads me to believe there isn't a 7 speed, but a pair of 7 speed were up for sale on Ebay so I took a punt. From the look I believe they are 8 but not sure? Noob question, should I get 8 positive clicks on the right hand shifter, I do on the left but not on the right? Maybe this is why they were advertised a 7 speed, any help appreciated

Not sure about the number of clicks, but the sprocket pitch (distance between neighbouring sprockets) should be the same at 5mm on both 7 speed and Campag 8 speed. So the levers should work with 7 speed (just stop down the mech; no harm in having a useless click if they are actually 8 speed).

Thanks Nick, I'm hoping they are 8 speed and I managed to pick up a deal, but it could be that they are faulty - anyway cheers for the info

Note that going from the smallest sprocket to the largest on an 8 speed cassette involves 7 clicks ...

Aha - I think you've answered my question - hands up - I am a beginner to the fine art of bike mechanics. I haven't set them up just tried them out before putting the cables in. next question - any good guides to setting up cables on 8 speed ergopower levers. I haven't found a good description/ video yet on the WWW

Sorry, never done it. Just bought some Ergos myself, so will have to give it a go soon.

I'm 99% sure that there have never been 7s ergo levers. the first version was 8s, and the same lever was used in record, chorus and I think also athena groups. After that ergo made it's way into all groups over the years, but always 8s. But as nammonk said, if the distance between sprockets is the same for 7 and 8 speed then they will work fine, and 8s levers only have 7 clicks.

Mirage Ergos in the early/mid 90s were 7-speed. I had them on my race bike back in my student days. It's possible that one of the other gruppos down at the low end (maybe Veloce?) in the early days were also 7-speed but most lines from the very early beginning were 8-speed.
