Cannondale Raven 4000sx

WernerP

Retro Newbie
Hey, I have a Raven 4000sx for sale. Was fixing it up but now have to sell it as I have an old Jekyll that I enjoy more. It has new running gear Shimano Deore and new tires. Been serviced but has been stood a while as I just don't use it.
It is a Large. I don't know if the frame has been sent back after the recall. The shocks seem fine.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
Price: 1000pounds.

Re:

Have a look under the bottom bracket. There should be a round sticker, its where a hole will have been drilled and the foam was injected into. If not, it's not had the fix.

Re:

Just had a look. No such sticker. So it has not had the fix. Is it easy to have done? Massive problem?

It was a special two pack epoxy that Cannondale supplied to dealers. They drilled a hole and put the expanding mix in. It was a bit of a band aid fix even back in the day. Cannondale didn't want to recall all the frames..... It wouldn't be worth doing it now to be honest, the Raven just either needs to be ridden very gently (low weight person would help!), or hung on the wall as a piece of bike art....

You'r certainly not going to get anywhere near what you're asking for it to be honest. There is a highly specced MK1 going on here for £650...

A lot of the MK2's snapped at the bottom bracket joint, something about incorrect bonding when they built them. They also had problems with snapping seat post mounts. There is a mount that was retrofitted which yours doesn't have.

Re:

Then I would rather not tell you what I have spent on it. Sad times. I am open to offers. Otherwise I will just keep it and ride it like you suggested.

Re:

Labour of love hey? Hahahaha thanks for all your help. I have an old Jekyll that gets abused! Love it.

Re:

Speaking from personal experience and working at a Leisure Lakes many years ago not all Mk2 Ravens had the hole drilled for the epoxy to be injected, some had the bottom bracket removed and the the gunk injected that way.
Main differences between Mk1 and Mk2, thermo-set carbon and an alloy spine vs thermo-plastic carbon and a magnesium alloy spine and engineers who got greedy with weight loss.

Tell me about it, but the hobby is abour riding, upgrades, riding and more upgrades. Theres little money to be made on bikes unless you can buy reallt cheap.

Just remember youd only spend the money on booze, ciggies, drugs , cake etc
