Correct way to remove a solid tyre?

I need to remove a solid tyre from my latest project, i want to reuse the tyre once I have rebuilt the wheel.

Can anyone tell me the correct way to remove the tyre?

If you grip it with a decent set of pliers or pipe grips, you can pull it sideways up off the rim. This make enough space between the tyre and the rim to slip a decent tyre lever, flat spanner or such int this gap and lever the tyre off.

To get it back on, you'll need a big zip tie or toe strap to keep it in place, press the tyre into the rim and then continue round to the strap with a big tyre lever.

Some instructions here. You don't really need the big lever tool, just a good sized flat tyre lever. I can lend.

Sleep well,

Just out of interest, why do you want to re-use it? I tried solid tyres some years ago thinking they would be a great - and obvious - solution to punctures for commuting. One buckled rim later and I went back to normal tyres. I would recommend using a hacksaw to cut it off then throwing it away.

Up to you though! (And I'm genuinely interested to hear how you get on with it...)

Thank you danson67, all tyres are now off.

Rich34 - I want to keep it as original as possible, and I won't be able to ride it anyway, its a vintage childs tricycle. It is a restoration for the love of old bikes! :)

Ah, right... The ones I had were 700C... Absolute disaster. Seemed like a great idea when I saw them in the shop... They should have come with a spare spoke nipple key for the time needed to true your wheels after a few kilometres over pot holes.
