Deore V-Brakes Vs. XT V-Brakes

I am going to put some new breaks on my touring/moutain bike. I am debating between the new Deore XT V-Brakes (BR M770) or the Deore V Brakes (BR M530). So far I believe them to the exactly the same break with different decals and stocked with different pads. I'm trying to figure out if they have different arm lengths to better clear mud guards. The Deare BR M530 come in "L" and "S". Does that mean "Long" and "Small" or is that just the color option? Any help or even a sugguestion of some other preferd break would be Awsome!

You might like to consider the new T660 Deore LX brakes. The arms are a bit longer and shaped to give better clearance with lamps and mudguards. £24.99 a pair and Madison have stock.

Dunno i fancied the Paralel pad system on the XT's Didn't fit so easily to my big wheeled (700 28? :? ) commuter so pad are not as straight as I'd like, but hells so good so far. a month of reliable reassuring stopping. Apparently most other V's are very similar, The GF's merlin has deore set up newish and stops just fine too. its not hit hard core mud yet though...

The L and S in Shimano part numbers refers to the colour of the arms.

L is for black ( :? ) and S is for silver.

I think that parallel push is now only on XTR...

...and I thought that the parallel push mechanism was more a musical instrument than a braking component anyway...

..did come in handy once mind as I rounded a corner and saw a stag standing in th emiddle of the track. The screech was a good horn substitute!

Mine squawked like anything so got ditched in favour of Maguras.

That's right! Personally I think that it says something about how good it is when Shimano themselves drop it from their most popular group. It's not as if it actually did anything to improve braking performance either.

Oh, didn't realise that, i liked the idea that the pads stayed flat, they stop wellbut do make a scrapey noise I was beginning to wonder if they were sintered, no big squeeky horn noises yet...

Luckily I got hold of a job lot of NOS Deore brake arms/pads etc and now have them fitted to all the family bikes. Absolutely no problems with any of them in terms of performance (for a rim brake). You can pay extra for not a great significant benefit IMHO, but hey, that applies to everything
