Been hunting around for a 1" to 1 1/8" handlebar shim to no avail.

Found some 1 1/16" (1.2mm) stainless steel sheet on t'interweb, is it practical /safe to cut a couple of pieces of the right shape and size to make my own (shim)?

Or is there more to it??

Is it for steerer or bars? The reason I ask is steerers are nrmally measured 1"/1 1/8" etc and bars are 25.4/26.0/31.8mm

 yeah . .

can't see it being a major biggie tbh.. in theory there's no reason why this shim won' be ok (in the same way that coke can shims are fine too)..

Just want to be sure . . . .

And this will be cheaper than shop bought too.. by a long stretch 8)

Been looking at those very shims for the past few days (have a USE post to go into a '98 Avalanche frame) and there were no pennies dropping

It'd have top be split lengthways though, for riser bars.. a little care and some sanding would sort that though.... 8)

**didn't get any sleep last night edit** . . I'm not thinking right.. need to shim down from o/s to 28.6

The bars require a 28.6 clamp so the stem would have to be o/s (31.8 ??) and shimmed down.. not bloody 25 - 28.6

Christ! they're like buses these things  ..have exactly the same dilemma here too!

Was going to do the same thing and use a seatpost shim cut in half etc like you said. Isn't it 1.6mm needed though for 28.6-31.8?
