Saw this....shame about the rust.

Either 1987 or 1988 I think.

So was this just a USA model as thought the smoke ones with different graphics (as below) were in 87/88....I have a smoke one I bought 2nd hand from a friend in '88 unless my memory is knackered....which is a possibility.

Either 1987 or 1988 I think.

Yeah, it's quite similar to the '86 Apex I have, just the components are slightly newer on this Ascent, so I'm guessing '87.

Nice bit of 1980's mtb nostalgia for the price
