Help, 2001 Cannondale Jekyll 500 from Scratch

E-rock

Retro Newbie
Good Day,

Just received a frame for Jekyll 500. The only think on it is what appears to be the original rear shox.

Help identifying components that would be compatible with this, my first, Cannondale.

Items if interest;

*Bottom Bracket Size and compatible style. I have a RaceFace Crankset for a tappered bottom bracket, would this work and if so, what size BB do I need?

*Headset, what size is needed?

*Rear Shock replacement options?

*should I replace swingarm hardware as I am sure they could use refreshing.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re:

Can't help much but rear shocks are united due to the trunnion. Fox and manitou are the only ones I know of aside from risse. I only know this as with a mod, you could fit a jekyll shock to an sts which I've done a couple of times.

Bb size will be either a 68 or 73mm shell with whatever axle length is designed for your cranks. Check the Sheldon brown site. You should find the info needed there.

Headset size may be a 1.5 as cannondake ran this for years, though depends on what fork you have/want to run as you can get reducer cups or head tube shims to allow more standard forks to fit.

Makes sense to replace bearings etc if you are doing a rebuild. Easier to do it before you build it up naturally. Online searches will tell you what you need unless you want to take it apart and check the bearing sizes yourself. Personally I prefer to have the bits I need and do it in one go rather than take apart and have a bike sitting in bits until parts arrive, but sometimes you have to go that way if you can't find the right info beforehand.

Good luck with your renovation.

Re:

Should mention that depending on what version of jekyll, shocks changed so check the one you have and get the same dimensionally. You could service the one you have if its in decent condition. Not as difficult as you'd think based on the cost of sending it away. You should just need a service kit and watch a few vids online and follow the steps.
