Noticed that on the XTR M900 chainset that i'm restoring that the chainrings are unevenly spaced, i.e. the outer and middle are close together but the middle and inner are further apart. The chainset looks to have it's original spacers on the inner ring, but the middle/outer rings have no spacers. From memory these older chainsets had spacers (washers) to gap the middle and outer ring correctly.

Am I correct in thinking this, where can I get some and do they fit the middle or outer chainring side of the crank spider?

maybe wrong spacers on the inner .

I cant remeber using spacers on the middle /outer .

Good points about the rings and the inner spacers. I've not got the original rings in at the moment but wil rebuild it with the originals this evening and see what difference that makes. Do we know what size spacers the inner ring should be using?

the original rings are thick buggers. Spacers came and went seemingly at random with 110 BCD Shimano cranks.

5.3mm

(as mentioned on the exploded view in the above link ahem)

;)

I see it now, thanks Carsten.

Took a look at the chainset and the original rings last night and as you all say the rings are thick buggers. I'll therefore go back to originals and this should put the spacing back to normal.

Thanks everyone for your help, I always like to think there is no such thing as a stupid question on this forum.
