How to identify Kona Project 2 fork variants....

noworktoday

Dirt Disciple
...does anyone have the low down?

The one on my desk is

battleship grey
two Kona Project 2 stickers in orangey/red (Kona) and silver (Project 2) on a light blue field with black outlines
410mm from crown to axle centre
has 123F670E and CM/TB stamped on the stem
has a 1 1/8th threaded steerer 122mm long with30mm of thread on it.

Any idea what year?
-and-
(fingers crossed) does CM/TB stand for Chrome-Molybdenum/Triple Butted?

TB = triple butted
Battleship grey - likely to be circa 95-97

I'll let Anthony confirm!

Top news. A fortunate ebay purchase. It will go to dave yates to be converted to an ahead steerer so I can then upgrade my '93 kilauea without messing with the original fork.

778 gms and no lawyer tabs either.

It's a 1996 tb made for a size 16 frame.

I'm afraid that your 1993 frame was designed for a 39cm a-c fork, not the 41cm ones such as this one, that were fitted from 1994 onwards. You may still be able to use it without slowing the handling however, provided you fit a shorter stem, say 10cm.

slowing the steering won't be a problem, the bike is used as a ss cruiser style all round shop/pub/hack bike.

Nevertheless, I would still suggest a 10cm stem. Sharp steering is more fun, whatever you use the bike for.

Fair comment, but the last thing I need is sharp steering when carrying the shopping or towing my trailer! As it happens though the aheadset stems I can to use, from my box of bits, are either 110mm, 100mm or 80mm
