Jamis, bit of a mystery brand?

I bought a really nice bike a couple of years ago and have restored it carefully in that time for my other half. I have based the build on the smallest picture you have ever seen and on BikePedia.

I tried to contact Jamis but they were completely uninterested which is a shame, and we have zero catalogue scans on here.

Does anyone know much about these bikes, or have any old catalogues they could scan in or photos to upload?

The bike I have is a 1995 Dakar Team, very similar to the silver one on the FS section at the moment but in a nice metallic red.

I'm a big fan of Jamis bikes, but my limited knowledge is all of their 80's and early 90's range.
I did have a really good contact at Jamis USA but I think he's left now (or changed his email address to stop me pestering him  )
I'm planning to contact them in a few weeks when my 87' Dakota is in MBR, to see if they're interested, so may have another 'in' if all goes well.
As another option, try contacting Bicycle World in Longham, Dorset.
They used to be the local Jamis stockist and I know there are a lot of the old staff still there who may be able to help you out.
Let me know how you get on!

That's a good place to start thanks. Jamis might be interested in your bike being in a mag as it is free advertising but they did not respond to my two or three very polite emails asking them about my bike, which is something I really don't appreciate of a company like this. White Industries for example have bent over backwards over the years to help me and I've just owned some of their old hubs! It really doesn't take much effort in my opinion to show that you give a s**t.

I'm sure Jeroen will be along soon too, and he will probably be much more help than me on this age of Jamis :D

My special friend has an ealy/mid 90s Jamis Durango - its good =D

Nothing fancy but for what I paid for it its a corker with some interesting design features 8)

My take on Jamis way back when was that they were sort of like Bridgestone. Well-thought out spec, good value. Bridgestone was more of a 'package' but Jamis seemed to have slightly nicer parts spec for a given price-point.

I'm really pleased because although the guy that answered my email from the shop can't find any old brochures he did send me a blurry race photo from back in the day, and when I told him about the bike I have been restoring and the challenges I had encountered along the way, he told me that he had the one part that had eluded me throughout the build in his hand and that I could have it for the price of postage!!

Now that is a result!
