Kona koa What are they like?

Does anyone know what the kona koa bike was like to ride, compared to the kona kileaua or explosif? i know the koa is ally, an the other steel , did it ride harsh what year were they produced in, an for how long? Cheers

A mate of mine had one back in about 98 and it was a deep red colour.
It rode well, stiff light and pretty well bullet proof too for an entry level alloy frame.
He had a reputation for breaking stuff and sure enough worked his way through most of the components but the frame was ok for a good 18 months till he finally snapped it.

Under " normal " riding it would be fine, strong, light and a kona.

1996 and 97 model years only, red in 96, orange/ochre in 97. Same frame as the Muni Mula, Kona Technical Information says 'custom-butted 7005, 3.9lbs for an 18" frame', catalogue says 3.6 (c.f. the claim for the Kula was 3.4)

Had the nice burnt orange 97' Koa for 6 years, fairly forgiving for alloy & rode really nice (like all hardtail Konas!)

I think there was a bluey grey 95 version too. Or different coulour for different continents?

Oooo...glad someone asked :) Bought one last night to be my little hack around the woods, without really knowing much about them. Maybe I paid too much but its still a cheap hack. Gonna change a few bits, but think it might be fun :?

You got the 97 and in great shape. It looks like it was actually a mid-range model if the catalogue order means anything...

Same frame as a Muni Mula plus nicer paint - £120 seems a pretty good bargain to me!

Though slightly more weight (.2 pounds). I agree with Anthony that it's a good price!
