So I have 1 set of m739 XT brakes where the linkage is sloppy meaning that the part of the brake that the pad attaches to is loose and wobbles. This means the pad doesn't always hit the same part of the rim and is generally sloppy...is there an easy fix? Or am I looking at a new brake?

Thanks

Doug

You used to be able to get service kits that would take up the slack in the linkage.
Not sure what the kit contained, as I never needed one, but I do remember you could buy them.

Not much help in itself, but it does at least confirm that there is a fix.

Right...the beer can washers worked stopping the wobble horizontally, but unfortunately not vertically! Think I need to find a new pair of vees!

they're not the pair I sent you are they? I can have a look at them. Not had any issues with any of the ones I've got, apart from having to fit some spacer washers.

They also made replacement linkages, from what I remember looking at them that virtical wobble is 'by design'.
You could try making a new linkage somehow or adding a spring the the holder section as per later models.

I can't see how you could replace the vertical bar on the brake arm...the movement vertically of the brake pad is probably around 5mm so with the bike upside down the pads rub the sidewall of the tyre!!
