Magic gear ratio Calculator

I remember seeing a link for a singlespewed magic gear calculator. I've searched, but I can't find it.
Anyone know where it is?

I don't think that's it. The on I was thinking of was "click" and there it is. That one needs all manner of compuliterate downloadings just to open.
Thanks though.

You know, calculating your gear ratio is easy. Just divide the number of teeth in front by the number of teeth in back and multiply the answer by the size of your wheel. This will give you your gear ratio in "Gear Inches", which is an easy way to compare one setup to another. Also, if you multiply the gear inch number by Pi (3.14) you get the distance your bike travels forward with one rotation of the cranks in that gear. Example--34 front with a 17 rear cog is 34 divided by 17 = 2 X 26 (MTB wheel / tire) =52 gear inches. Compare to a 42 front with a 21 rear and you find it is the same gear-42 divided by 21 = 2 X 26=52 gear inches. That was simplified, but a hand held calculator will do the odd numbers in a flash!

magic gear calculators tell you the required gearing to run singlespeed without a tensioner.

That's what I'm after. The one I remember had lots of little brightly coloured numbers all over the shop. Kaiser's link may welll be the one, but I'm buggered if I can open it. :?

The url is incorrect. . . but I'm sure that the link has been posted in response to one of my threads in the past..

As a penance for my misunderstanding what you wanted, I'm hunting. . . . ;)

The eehouse.org one used to launch in Foxfire. I used it to get the 35-17 no tensioner combo for my Brodie. Link sees to be messed up, even going from the bookmarks on my home comp.

I have a small program called ssconvert to find out the magic ratio for a single speed . I can email it to you (PM me your email address or can I send .exe. attachments via a PM?)
