Marzocchi XC 500 air preassure? (mid 90's)

Hi!

My first visit here, thought this might be the place to look for answers about old mtb's etc.! So, I'm going to fit a Marzocchi XC 500 from the mid 90's on my -95 Cannondale M500. My brother gave it to me as he had no use for it, but he did tell me the air pressure might be a bit low. So my question is, does anybody know what the recommended air-pressure is for an mid 90's Marzocchi XC 500?

Cheers!

Hi again!

I gave an XC 500 service manual pdf (from 93 I believe) a closer look and found a diagram of the forks "working characteristics" at different air pressures. The diagram showed the working characteristics at 3-5 bar, is that to be interpret as the recommended air pressure (i.e. between 3 to 5 bar)?

Have a look on line for a full manual.

I serviced a pair of XC700 last year and was able to find a chart on line with different pressures for different weight riders. 3-5 Bar sounds a little high, but as my memory is rubbish these days, it may be right.

@NeilM - The only full manual I can find is the one I already have. I believe it's from -93 (taken from dr Marzocchis site) but the fork itself was probably bought around -96. Would the diagram still be valid?

I do believe the fork was bougt at the same time as my Cdale M500, both the bike and the fork used to belong to my brother. The bike have been mine for the past 15 years or so though but I've been riding on the original pepperoni fork since I got it.

Xc500 are 20 wt oil. Oil height varies with rider weight 45mm for standard.
But pressure range is 40 to 80 psi
Stick 60 in and tune up or down from there.

@NielM - Great site!

@FluffyChicken - Great, thanks! It does seem as if the information in the manual I got is applicable to my fork then, which is good to know!

The design didn't change too much, just oil viscosity was the main change during them from a setup perspective.
I think 50psi may have been the as stocked pressure, but given its the main tuning setting. Play around.
I think I posted up the table for all the forks somewhere.
