My favourite tyres are the late 90ies Wildgripper Sprint S, these are very hard to get hold of so I was wondering whether there are any modern alternatives with a similar design and weight and ride quality?
In Black (not green) and preferably with an amber wall (though all black would do)

Any other alternatives with ride quality and weight ( rather than look?)

How's the Panaracer Razer XC like?

Or the Soar?
Or New Michelin Wild Rac'r?

Re:

Probably not the tread pattern you are looking for but I can honestly say the Michelin Wildgrip'R are the best tyres I've ever used.

Re:

I just did a Google image search for Wildgrippers, they look like a semi slick.

In which case you could try Schwalbe Sammy Slick: http://www.schwalbe.com/gb/offroad-read ... slick.html, or possibly Hurricane: http://www.schwalbe.com/gb/offroad-read ... icane.html

I've used and like both and the Raceguard puncture protection does a good job, noticeably better than some similar unprotected tyres I've tried like the Maxxis Wormdrive, with which I got a puncture about once every 15 miles, and the semi slick tread suits the routes I ride regularly, which always include a fair amount of tarmac because I don't drive, so I don't have the option of driving somewhere and then doing a completely off-road ride.

Re:

Definitely not a semi slick I can assure you I think your looking at the wrong tyres

They're Not semi slick. They have knobules and more so around the edges- great tyre that is going for a lot of dosh 2nd hand even and in great demand here on RB
They're good on all surfaces and pretty light
There are a few versions but the Sprint S (or similar) is the one I'm talking about.
I sold mine as they were green and now want something similar or te real thing .

Xerxes I will take a look thanks for the links

Chris the modern ones look to have too much tread and grip for me

I have wild race'r on my MTrax - very good but not as good as the Sprint S

Any experience with the panaracer ?

Is this them?:

I'd describe that as a semi slick, something with a smooth-ish centre tread.

yeah I thought the sprint S was a semi slick, I loved the lite S, thought it was the best rear tyre ever (front was crap)

Yes they're the ones. And that's my photo of the ones I sold
I didn't know these were classed as semi slick - anyway any modern alternative in looks and ride ? But in black amber wall

continental speed king or race king
schwable furious fred or sammy slick
hutchison black mamba
maxxis wormdrive

oh and amber wall... you got like zero chance in a billion for that.
