Pace RC36 (idiot question time)

Right, bought myself some Pace RC36s off ebay t'other day and I'm hoping that you might be able to help me with a few things. :) (I've not had any experience with Pace forks before (had Mag 21s for longer than I can remember) so here are some idiot questions):

1) Anyone else agree that these look like the early RC36 (1997ish) rather than Proclass or anything like that?

2) Using this for comparison (http://www.goatsurfer.com/images/RC36_front.jpg) the black adjustment thingumy on the top of my fork leg is nasty black plastic (compared to the nice shiney metal one on goatsurfer's) and doesn't entirely look like it fits it's home properly. Does this look original and, if not, anyone know where I might get one? (The bung on the right looks a bit grotty as well).

3) The allen bolts on the crown are starting to round a bit, anyone know the original spec (M? + length) for these so I can replace them?

4) Mine seem to be missing the nice oval RC36 decals - did these come on all of them and where might I get replacements (thinking gil_m?) - if it's possible to.

5) I'm now going to display my shocking lack of fork technology knowledge by asking: when I compress the forks (by putting my weight on them) I can hear air escaping from the holes at the bottom of the drop outs; is this normal? I thought RC36s were oil/spring so should they be hissing or this something to do with the bottom out elastomers (I think it has these?)

Thanks for any light that can be shed (and appolgies for the numbered list - it's just how my brain works :) ).

They are indeed 1997 RC36. The silver stanchioned versions were called MXCD[as against Pro Class gold leg versions] but that normally causes confusion with the earlier '95/'96 RC35 fork.

The nasty black lever is the original but was upgraded to the alloy lever later. The cartridge is identical to the '96 RC35 btw.

The PACE top cap should be under the crown flange and not on top like it is in the pic. Might have a better one for you :D

Crown bolts are M4x18 holding the stanchions, and M5x14 'Lowhead' holding the steerer.

I have some new decal sets coming soon[hopefully]

The holes at the dropouts are there to allow the air to escape to prevent the fork 'ramping up' on internal air pressure on compression. There are no elastomers in the fork but there are bottom out bumpers inside the springs.

Hmmm - thanks for the info. :) Just need to flog a few more things on eBay now so I can afford a proper service! :)
