Phil Wood square taper b/b advice please

Hi
Although not strictly retro, I'm after some advice please.

I'm going to fit a Middleburn RS7 crankset to a Orange P7 (2010), the Middleburn is square taper.

I'm drawn towards a stainless steel Phil Wood bottom bracket (113 x 68), with 2 stainless steel cups + 2 adjusting tools.

The only places that i can find that sell such equipment are Aspire and HubJub.

I'm reasonably mechanically competent, and have looked at the Phil Wood fitting instructions - is the thread lock really important for fitting?

I've always used anti seize compound on bottom bracket shell threads, as you don't want that part to seize or be difficult to remove.

~~

Also any thoughts on the cheaper SKF square taper bottom bracket ?

Do I really need to use a thread retaining compound (such as Loctite) on my bottom bracket cups? Can I use grease?
Please use a mild thread retaining compound (242 – blue). Make sure both the frame and the cups are free of grease before applying the thread retaining compound. Be careful not to put any of the thread retaining compound on your frame, as it could damage the paint if left too long.

I would, doesn't cost much and you keep you warranty. I assume it will stop it tightening or coming loose due to imperfection on either surface or something like that. Why spend that much on a bottom bracket and skimp on a few £ of installation recommended compound.
I would have thought the compound, being in between both surfaces will also stop it seizing, but be less lubricating than anti-seize (depends on the anti-seize I guess as it isn't that same as grease)

Cheers for the feedback - it's not to save a few pennies on the thread loc, I just don't like using the stuff.

Afraid of the cups binding in the bottom bracket shell, should I want to remove it for any reason.

I'll drop them an email anyway - thanks for the link - I've heard their customer service is excellent.

Not quite what you've asked for,

When fitting square taper crank arms, I use copper-slip on the tapers and then threadlock the M8 screws that hold the crank to the BB.

Thanks, a smidge of copper slip on the arms and some locktite on the crank bolts seem to be a good idea.

I really know that I should buy the Phil Wood b/b due to its immense reputation and service back up. Waiting for Hubjub to come back to me , otherwise I'll get it from the States.

and before this opens into a grease/no grease debate

Here is Phil Woods recommendation for this specific bottom bracket.
Is it recommended that grease be applied to the axle taper of my Phil Wood bottom bracket before installing cranks?
We recommend that a light film of grease be applied to the taper. This is only a recommendation for Phil Wood bottom brackets, as our taper was designed with grease in mind.
