Thinking about getting some new wheels and Planet X have cheap deals for their A57 and Model B wheels. Has anyone had any experience of them as internet reviews say freehubs aren't the best quality. Thinking that A57s wuld be better buy as they'll cope better with rough roads and look more correct on a steel frame. But am tempted by the lighter weight of the Model Bs.

I've used the Model Bs - as you say, they'd probably not really look right on a retro bike. I've only done about 2000 miles or so on them, but they've been great.
The freehubs are fine - I think there were some problems with early versions chewing up, but I've certainly not experienced this, and I believe that it's been sorted. Replacement bearings can be hard to get I think, but are available from specialist suppliers (not, I think, from Planet X).
For the price, I don't really think you can go wrong, frankly!
