Hi, Can someone give me a run down on the Raleigh TI bikes? As I understand it they were sold through the 70s/80s some have Team or Team Raleigh on the top tube others left blank? Also noticed they were done in 531 753 and maybe other grades? I hear there are Europa models that were a cheaper design? Any info would be good thanks.

Hi, the Specialist Bicycle Development Unit (SBDU) at Ilkeston built the Team bikes for the TI Raleigh Team in the 70s and 80s. Early SBDU frames (74/75) had Team Raleigh on the top tube but was soon changed to just TEAM. The SBDU built in 531 and 753 and frames had an SB prefix serial number. Worksop also built some excellent Team replica frames in 531. Those frames have a 'W' prefix to the serial number (found underneath the BB shell). Raleigh also had a multitude of cheaper products such as the Europa in Team Black and Red colours.

Hope that helps a little. Pictures of what you have would help identify yours.
Cheers
Neil

Re:

I can get a pic of mine up tomorrow but for now I can describe what it has, I beleive mine is more likely a cheaper model.
Firstly there is no decal on the top tube and the area on the seat tube where the Reynalds sticker would be had a Coded Cycle sticker! The Raleigh badge is metal and riveted but suspect they probably all are anyway, the serial on the bottom of the frame looks like BB46DS96, the brakes are Weinmann Dia Compe, Suntour shifters, Raleigh front derailleur and Shimano SIS rear derailleur, and SR stem, there is no holes for mudguards.

Retro Guru thanks for the link.

That sure is an unusual Raleigh serial number.......However, the upper models came with the mudguard eyes removed so it can't be that bad :D

Just been told it is a postcode stamp! Will have to look again for the serial, is it always on the bottom of the frame on them?

The other place is the rear dropout or on the seat tube a short distance under the seat bolt. The other thing is that it might not be a Raleigh as a lot of people liked the team colours and finished their bikes as a Raleigh copy.

Thanks I'll have a look tomorrow, fingers crossed it's at least a Raleigh lol.

Re:

Ok the serial was on the back of the seat tube and is A2013081 I tried to match it up with what I found on google but failed so maybe someone else can make sense of it?

Sorry correction it is NA2013081 the N was faded and took a second look. So it is Nottingham made, Janurary is aprox month made and the 2 will be 1982. This seem right?
