Recommended Wheel Builders in Surrey

Well, I am getting close to being able to get a set of wheels built up for my long burning Saracen project. But, I want someone of known quality to do the work. Can anyone recommend a top quality wheel builder in the surrey area to do this for me.

I have heard good things about Nirvana Cycles in Westcott, but also a friend had a wheel build done there that had a few problems. The wheel guy at Evans in Woking apparently has an awesome reputation for wheel builds, including doing snowflakes, but then its an Evans and I like the idea of some private little company with an old guy that has years of experience doing it. The kind of place nobody goes unless they are told about it.

So, who would you use in this instance? Who have you used? Time to out all those little goldmines of skill you try and keep to yourself 8)

My wheelbuilder is nowhere near you but he's the kinda fella you're after

Does all his work in a 12'x6' shed, he's in his 70's, has a mini lathe, pillar drill & other 'proper' man tools in there, tens of rims scattered all over the shed, bike parts everywhere, bikes in there too, only rides steel framed road bikes, & is called Roy.

I suspect CannondaleKing may be the new Roy ;)

Ha! He sounds exactly like the little wheel building guru that nobody knows about that i would be after! Alas

I have spoken to CannondaleKing before about a build and would happily have paid to have them done with him from scratch (pp for services rather than gift for security), but there is something that really makes me reluctant to send off £260 worth of rim and hub to someone I have never met. I am sure that he is totally trustworthy and I wouldn't even dream of calling his integrity into question, but I am just funny like that.

So, moving on from my general lack of trust in mankind (!), kind of after a small independant shop or something before I plump with someone in a chain store.

Beyond Mountain Bikes Wheel builder Mike is a really good wheel builder. He's only in there part time, but he's the best I have found in the area. Near you too, in Cranleigh.

Ask them if he's still there.

I'll second the vote for Cannodaleking, Dan is at top bloke & totally trustworthy.

I don't know if we's still going but i used to get my wheels built by Jeremy Duke in Chiddingfold Bitd, he also worked out of a shed in his garden but was an ace wheel builder :)

Pedal pushers in guildford have done work for a few of my mates who have all had good things to say about the quality of their work. I find them a bit expensive for service stuff etc but they are good.
