nearing the end of my Marin build (there's a light at the end of the tunnel)

this is keeping me up all night....

Amongst half-a-dozen other things, my OE seatclamp needs replaced because i bent the QR lever whilst over-tightening the clamp.
(the thing only held the post sufficiently once in a blue moon)

It's a 35mm and never, ever, never; ever, stayed tight.
I should, clearly, get a 34.9

No?!

Oh and while i'm at it : a 34.9 mech also... No?!
(as it goes i have one already, go me)

What's the big deal about 0.1mm???

What's the difference!!! <if anyone says 'about 0.1mil, matey'...... ;) >

While i'm on it; why cant there be more 1" aheads??

Why are Marin team titaniums/team marins so expensive??!

why does Manitou and Marin aluminium look so alike?
are they related like cousins?! Siblings.... the SAME THING??! :O

Was there ever ANY 'made-in-america' Marins or what??

Will we EVER see any answers to these rhetorical rantings?!!

<sigh>

:?:

For what it's worth, I had similar issues when rebuilding my '99 East Peak.

34.9mm XT Front Mech fitted a treat, as did a cheapie BBB 34.9mm seat binder.

The original seat clamp was looser than an old tooth, so I binned it for a new one (cost me about a fiver!)

Nice rant. :P

A 34.9 Seatpost clamp should fit fine. The bolt just won't go through quite as far.

Same can be said for the front mech clamp. If it really needs it get a pair of mole grips and hold the end slightly tight and screw the bolt in some. At worst you'll need a longer bolt. No worries good ant chear from a engineering shop.

0.1mm.. As you said is about 0.1mm difference between 35.0 and 34.9..

I reckon it's just like me putting a 26.8 post in a 27.0 frame..

It fits fine and clamps tight, Just yours is 0.1 mm bigger..

0.1mm is about as thick as a piece of A4 paper..

1" aheadsets are kind of readily available from eBay..

CK do them still. As I'm positive alot of other makers do. They just sell less that aren't road.

I have no idea on the last questions though..
