So, just geen going through a box of parts I found in my dads barn from 30 odd years ago.

As every day is a school day, can somebody tell me the difference between SG-X and SG-C chainrings? They are all 110 bcd.

Is it age...ie model date or is it quality or what?

Quality seems unlikely as they both seem to be stamped out mass produced kit.

Just out of interest.

Cheers

SG-X had shifting pins at certain contact points to lift the chain up or down smoother than with just a normal flat ring. They appeared for the 1993 model year.

The out rings were machined for XT/ XTR

SG-C are a bit older and will have shifting teeth (they look like they're worn)

I did notice the pins. Thanks for the info.

Its rather a moot point as they went into that box for a good reason....they are all worn to death.

Although not as worn as the 12 tooth " ninja throwing star" my mate presented me with, complaining his chain kept slipping......no way bro!
